Our research team is focused on exploring and identifying important phytochemicals in local plant species. We are a diverse team of botanists, chemists, and pharmacologists, using advanced analytical techniques to isolate and characterize interesting plant compounds.
We aim to discover novel natural sources of these compounds, which hold significant potential for neuroscience, medicine, and pharmacology. Our work involves field collection, cultivation, laboratory analysis, and close collaboration with local communities to enhance our understanding of regional biodiversity and its potential pharmacological benefits.
Our projects are self-funded without any ties to corporate interests. We want to offer information as freely as possible, but need to cover some costs for instrumentation, consumables and keeping our gardens healthy.
For this reason our comprehensive data will be compiled into softcover, wire-bound publications, with photos, descriptions, chromatographs, growing information and much more. These will be split into specific plants of interest. Only 100 copies will be printed for each publication to keep them special, and each publication will be unique. The sale of these publications will help cover the costs of the analysis, as well as help continue our research.
Our initial project focuses on the Trichocereus genus. We have collected 75 clone-only varieties with verified provenance that are currently circulating within the community. We are conducting comprehensive analyses to determine the chemical profiles of each clone. Previews will be posted at cacti.phytodex.com and once this publication is complete, this will be its home page.
